Back in 2014, Nike Sportswear’s 21 Mercer store underwent renovation for an entire month and was then reopened as their brand new Nike Lab concept store. Apart from offering sneakerheads the latest Jordan Brand and Nike products, NikeLab 21M also serves as a space for Nike to showcase their heritage and innovations. Nike also revealed that they plan to introduce similar retail concept stores in Hong Kong, London, Milan, Paris and Shanghai, so that sneakerheads can avail the same retail experience all over the world. Unfortunately, NikeLab 21M in New York City had to cancel the recent exclusive release of the Air Jordan 1 “Top 3 Gold.”
In case sneakerheads do not recall, the Air Jordan 1 “Top Three,” which blended the model’s classic “Banned,” “Chicago” and “Royal” colorways, was among Jordan Brand’s 2016 Cyber Monday releases. Hence, it made it arrived on November 28th, 2016 and retailed at a price of $160. Thus, for this year’s Cyber Monday, Jordan Brand whipped up the Air Jordan 1 “Top 3 Gold,” which went up on retail exclusively at NikeLab 21M on November 27th, 2017. Instead of combining three different colorways of the Air Jordan 1, the “Top 3 Gold” is dressed up in a color scheme consisting of Black, Gold and White.
However, the expected limited release of the Air Jordan 1 “Top 3 Gold” did not turn out as expected. Chaos ensued because of all the resellers and sneakerheads who had lined up to cop a pair or more of the sneaker, and there are varying reports about the whole incident. Security at NikeLab 21M has even been accused of hand-picking specific people to receive the wristbands that were required to buy the sneaker. Some reports claim that NikeLab 21M cancelled the release and it will not be available online, while others suggest that the store had already sold 60 pairs of the sneaker, which might be available on eBay.
