Not too long ago, it was revealed that Jordan Brand and PSNY were collaborating once again, and their latest collaboration resulted in the creation of three new premium colorways of the Air Jordan 12. These turned out to be Air Jordan 12 iterations with completely tonal nubuck uppers and matching soles, dubbed “Bordeaux,” “Olive” and “Wheat” All three of them hit the shelves this Summer on June 28th, 2017, but not at the same place. The “Bordeaux” was a Milan-exclusive, the “Olive” was a Paris-exclusive and the “Wheat” was a NYC-exclusive on Nike SNKRS. However, the Air Jordan 12 featured above is not an actual release.
Sneakerheads may recall the Air Jordan 12 “Obsidian” that Jordan Brand last dropped on June 23rd, 2012 and it retailed at a price of $160. That very year, celebrities like Chris Brown, Fabolous, Jadakiss and Stalley Rock managed to add a pair of the sneaker to their collection earlier than others. The Air Jordan 12 “Obsidian” is even regarded as one of the best Air Jordan 12 colorways of all time and also of top Air Jordan sneakers that Russell Westbrook wore during that season. One of the noteworthy things about this particular Air Jordan 12 iteration was the fact that its uppers were made up of leather.
The sneaker featured here does indeed look like the Air Jordan 12 “Obsidian” and it does bear that nickname. However, it is actually a sample variation of the sneaker and instead of leather, its uppers are made up of nubuck, much like the PSNY x Air Jordan 12 releases that arrived at retailers last month. Other than this difference in its construction, this Air Jordan 12 “Obsidian” sample looks just the same, with its nubuck uppers dressed up in a combination of Obsidian and White.
However, this does not that Jordan Brand is now ready to transform this sneaker from a sample to a wider, general release. Rather, this Air Jordan 12 “Obsidian” sample is merely a single pair sized 9 and it is currently available on eBay at a whopping price of $1,499.99.
