This year, Jordan Brand gave sneakerheads a double dose of “Grape,” considering that two different variations of the coveted Air Jordan 5 hit the shelves in the previous months. Back in March, sneakerheads were provided with a detailed look at a never-before-seen Air Jordan 5 “Black Grape” rendition, which consist of a suede upper dressed up primarily in black with hints of Grape and New Emerald. Even though the Air Jordan “Black Grape” already made its Jordan releases back in March, apparently it was not the only version of the colorway that Jordan Brand had whipped up.
No doubt, sneakerheads quickly grew fond of the Air Jordan 5 “Grape,” especially those suffering from the 90’s nostalgia. They probably also recall that the iconic “Grape” iteration of the Air Jordan 5 was released a couple of years ago back in 2013 and two years later, Jordan Brand decided to drop the recently released “Black Grape” version as well. Instagram user OregonSole, who happens to be a sneaker collector, has somehow managed to get his hands on a Air Jordan 5 “Black Grape” pair that does not look like the version that hit the shelves and he even posted photos of the sneaker to verify his discovery.
While his Instagram post lacks specific information, it can still be made out the pair showcased could possibly be a promo sample. Moreover, it is definitely not the Air Jordan 5 “Black Grape” edition that countless sneakerheads ended up copping because instead of suede, the sneaker appears to be made up of smoother black leather. Apart from its smoother leather makeup, the sneaker sports the same traces of purple and teal all over.
While it is a mere change of materials, some sneakerheads are probably hoping and wishing that this unreleased Air Jordan 5 “Black Grape” version also gets a Jordan release 2015 so they may add it to their collection. However, chances are that this might not happen any time soon.
