This particular Air Jordan 9 iteration had surfaced on the web a week or so ago, and it was being speculated that Jordan Brand was going to officially dub this colorway the “Militia Green.” Apart from the fact that this Air Jordan 9 colorway is not nicknamed “Militia Green,” Jordanheads may also not be aware of the comprehensive background of this sneaker. Regardless, they will be able to get their hands on this Air Jordan 9 pair on one of the upcoming Jordan release dates 2015.
When the Air Jordan 9 was in the works, it did not seem that Michael Jordan would be rocking Jordan Brand’s newest signature silhouette of that time on the court. Yet, Michael Jordan did end up wearing the sneaker on the hardwood when playing for the Washington Wizards. Although rumor had it that Jordan Brand was going to discontinue their signature line, but Tinker Hatfield refused to cease producing the Air Jordan 9.
The United Center has a statute of Michael Jordan outside of it called “The Spirit,” which depicts Michael Jordan in his legendary Jumpman pose and laced up in the Air Jordan 9. However, there is no special reason why the statute is sporting Jordan Brand’s ninth signature model. Julie Rotblatt-Amrany and Omri, the ones who sculpted the statute, who decided it would be more appropriate if Michael Jordan was depicted rocking the silhouette that Jordan Brand has recently introduced at that time.
This Air Jordan 9 colorway is Jordan Brand’s tribute to that statue of Michael Jordan, and has been accordingly dubbed, “Statue.” Although the concept is similar to that behind the Air Jordan 10 “Lady Liberty,” the upper of this sneaker is almost entirely dressed up in white, which gives it a clean and sophisticated look. “The Spirit” statue’s copper tone has been replicated with the Military Green hue that covers the branding, inner lining, lace eyelets and nearly the entire speckled midsole beneath which lies a white outsole.
November 1st, 1994 is the date on which “The Spirit” had been introduced and this date is also featured behind this sneaker’s tongue, which confirms that the statue is its source of inspiration. Although no retail-related hints have been dropped by Jordanhead, the Air Jordan 9 “Military Green” or Air Jordan 9 “Statue” will likely hit the shelves on one of the upcoming Jordan release dates 2015.
