The modern Olympic Games are more than just a sporting competition. The event is distinctive and memorabe, with the celebration of the Olympic Games going hand in hand with its ceremonial aspects. One of the oldest and most iconic Olympic ceremonies dates back to the 1896 Olympiad in Athens and it is the Closing Ceremony. Of course, the Closing Ceremony from a hundred-and-twenty years ago would barely resemble any of the modern Olympic ceremonies, but it still takes place. Drawing inspiration from this Olympic tradition, this Air Jordan 11 Low “Metallic Gold” is a tribute to this year’s Closing Ceremony.
Carrying on the tradition as it has been for more than a hundred years, a Closing Ceremony is organized on the final day of the Olympic Games. Usually, it takes place after all the events are over, in the Olympic stadium itself. During the Closing Ceremony, the host country’s head of the state enters, the host country’s national anthem is played and a parade of the flags of all the participating countries takes place. A parade of athletes and a victory ceremony also takes place during the Closing Ceremony. This year’s Closing Ceremony will take place on August 21st in the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Initially, the source of inspiration behind this luxurious Air Jordan 11 Low remained unknown, although many assumed it was somehow inspired by the Olympics, and its “Closing Ceremony” nickname clarifies everything. The uppers are predominantly made up of clean White-colored leather, but its luxe appeal comes from its lustrous mudguard overlays, which are covered in a Metallic Gold hue. Adding further contrast, Black also makes an appearance on this sneaker, over the inner linings and tongue tabs. While its plain midsoles match its uppers, this sneaker is also equipped with icy translucent outsoles.
As mentioned, the 2016 Olympic Closing ceremony is scheduled for August 21st. However, this Air Jordan 11 Low will retail a couple of days later on August 27th at a price of $170.
