No one really knows for sure where the term “Black Friday” originated from. Presently, it is the nickname widely used for the Friday after Thanksgiving Day when people all over the United States go on a shopping spree in order to take advantage of all the bargains, discounts and sales. Apparently, this is why the general belief is that the term refers to retailers going “into the black,” which in the retail world is slang for earning profit. Indeed, Jordan Brand has also been going “into the black” with its Black Friday Air Jordan releases, with this year’s release being the Air Jordan 3 OG ’88 “True Blue.”
According to some, the term “Black Friday” was first used for the Friday following the U.S. gold market crash that happened on September 24th, 1869. The crash was a result of a conspiracy by two Wall Street financiers that sent the stock market into a downward spiral and just about everyone went bankrupt. Others claim that the Philadelphia Police Department is responsible for using the term ever since 1966 as a reference to all the chaos on the day following Thanksgiving because of all the cars on the road and traffic jams. Of course, the history of the term is of little significance here.
What matters is that the Air Jordan 3 is making its much awaited comeback after Jordan Brand decided to stop producing further colorways of this classic Air Jordan model indefinitely. In fact, it is returning in not one but two colorways, one of which is the OG ’88 “True Blue.” Based on these photos of the actual sneaker posted by Instagram user @retros_77, this year’s version looks just like the original with predominantly clean White uppers. The Fire Red and True Blue hues make an appearance over the eyelets, inner linings, the Jumpman branding on the tongues, the midsoles and the Nike Air logo on the heels. Of course, it also feature its signature Cement Grey-colored elephant print overlay as well.
Thus, most sneakerheads will end up adding two new Air Jordan 3 iterations to their collections, considering that the all-Black Air Jordan 3 “Cyber Monday” will also join November 2016’s Air Jordan releases. Since Black Friday is on November 25th of this year, so that is when the Air Jordan 3 OG ’88 “True Blue” will retail once again, this time at a price of $220.
