The Duke University Blue Devils and the University of North Carolina Tar Heels happen to be top rivals in college basketball met this Wednesday to settle the score. Currently, both the Blue Devils and the Tar Heels managed to score just two victories respectively against other ranked teams. Apart from taking their rivalry to another level, this game will likely be bring out the best of both these teams, considering the approaching NBA draft in March. Above all, the game also served as a platform that teased the possibility of the Jordan release dates of another new Air Jordan 30 colorway.
For avid Jordanheads, it should not be difficult to guess that one of the reasons that that the Tar Heels have received their own Air Jordan 30 iteration is because they are Michael Jordan’s alma mater. It is unfortunate that the Tar Heels ended up losing despite being more experienced and despite the Blue Devils’ youth-filled, short-handed roster. Roy Williams, the Tar Heels’ coach, took the blame upon himself for not calling timeout prior to the final possession. While this loss will certainly be hard to swallow for both the coach and the team, at least the roster got to sport their own Air Jordan 30 rendition that might actually hit the shelves.
This version of the Air Jordan 30 unveiled by the UNC Tar Heels, which is apparently not a Player Exclusive, is unsurprisingly dressed in a color scheme inspired by the university’s official hues. The Flyweave upper appears to be sporting a gradient aesthetic that begins with University Blue covering the heel, which then blends into White towards the toebox. The toebox itself, much like the outsole, is also dressed up in University Blue, while a trio of White “X”-es add further contrast to the sneaker.
Whether or not the Jordan release 2016 of this Air Jordan 30 “Tar Heels” will actually take place remains uncertainly. However, it is being rumored that this sneaker could arrive at retailers on March 5th.
