Back in December last year, Jordan Brand had made it quite evident that Carmelo Anthony’s signature sneaker model would soon be available for sneaker collectors in multiple colorways. One of the colorways that had been unveiled to sneakerheads like 23isBack readers ahead of time, nearly a month prior to the debut of the silhouette, was this “Red Hook Sunset” colorway. Several iterations of the Jordan Melo M11 already made their retail debut on January 3rd, 2015, and one of the Jordan release dates 2015 on which this Melo M11 version was supposed to be dropped has arrived too.
Carmelo Anthony is currently Jordan Brand’s longest running athlete, considering that the Melo M11 is his eleventh signature sneaker model, which is a nod to his 12th NBA season. Similarly, this “Red Hook Sunset” colorway of the Jordan Melo M11 pays tribute to the Brooklyn-based Red Hook Projects, which happens to be place of birth of Carmelo Anthony. In a way, this sneaker gives Jordanheads the lesson that we should never forget our beginnings, no matter where we are headed, or where we end up.
There seems to be somewhat of a similarity between the Melo M11 “Red Hook Sunset” and the previous Melo M11 colorways. Obviously, this means that there is some kind of a theme behind the various iterations of this silhouette. Unlike the recently released All-Star themed Air new Jordans, the upper of this Melo M11 pair is dressed up in the Game Royal hue. The gradient pinkish Fireberry shade that covers the ankle and heel is a reference to the color of the setting sun when viewed from within Brooklyn. The sneaker also receives a dark touch in the form of the all-black inner lining, laces, midsole and tongue, while the orange lace loops and the white on the outsole balance out this color scheme.
Along with the Red Hook Projects, this sneaker is also a reminder of the sunsets that Carmelo Anthony may have likely viewed back when he was a child growing up in Brooklyn. Many 23isBack readers had probably started making plans to cop this Jordan Melo M11 “Red Hook Sunset,” since the end of last year. Since March 1st, 2015 was one of the Jordan release dates 2015 that Jordan Brand had confirmed for the retail debut of the pair, it has finally hit the shelves.
