Michael Jordan never actually got to laced up in and rock the Air Jordan 9 on the court for an entire NBA season. The reason behind this is that Michael Jordan had already announced his retirement from the Chicago Bulls on October 6th, 1993. It was only later in his career when he had returned back to the world of professional basketball and was playing for the Washington Wizards that he ended up wearing the Air Jordan 9 on the hardwood, but in its “Cool Grey” colorway. However, it seems the very first, original Air Jordan 9 colorway might be among 2016’s Air Jordan releases.
It was back in 1993-94 when Jordan Brand had originally introduced the Air Jordan 9 and Tinker Hatfield was the one who once again designed the ninth Air Jordan model. As mentioned, this silhouette made its retail debut in a “White Black – True Red” after Michael Jordan’s retirement from professional basketball in pursuit of a professional baseball career. Even though Michael Jordan spent a lot of time away from basketball courts, this did not stop the sneaker from making appearances on the hardwood in the form of Player Exclusives. This same iteration will apparently hit the shelves again this year.
The Air Jordan 9 “White Black – True Red” also received the retro treatment back in 2002 and was dropped on January 12th of that year. Much like the original, the leather uppers of this year’s version will likely be predominantly clean White while also being covered in Black-colored accents and overlays. Not certain as of yet, but the sneaker might also include features like dynamic-fit inner booties, encapsulated air-sole units, large volume air-soles, a “one-pull” lacing system and polyurethane midsoles.
Once they do cop a pair, Jordanheads will find the Nike branding present over the insoles, which adds an OG touch. Surprisingly, there is already confirmation that the Air Jordan 9 “White / Black – True Red” will make its comeback on December 3rd and will retail at a price of $190.
