The last time the Low form of the Air Jordan 14 silhouette had hit the shelves was several of years ago. In particular, Jordanheads (including 23isBack readers) have been anticipating and expecting that Jordan Brand would drop a new, never-before-seen and unique colorway of the model. Although not precisely as their expectations, their wish has been granted since the classic “Laney” colorway of the Air Jordan 14 Low from 1999 is going to be arriving at retailers on one of the December Jordan release dates 2015.
Nostalgia is already on the rise for 23 is Back readers, considering that another one of Jordan Brand’s classic 1999 sneakers also made its return last month, i.e. the Air Jordan 4 “Oreo.” However, the comeback of the Air Jordan 14 Low “Laney” will likely make them feel even more nostalgic about this particular year when this new jordans had made its original retail debut. Back in ’99, the inspiration for this colorway had come from Michael Jordan’s high school days and despite the absence of any Chicago motif, the design is deeply implanted in Jordan Brand history.
The reference to Michael Jordan’s High School comes in the form of the Maize and Varsity Royal Blue hues, the latter being the predominant color on the nubuck leather upper covering the sides. Black is the other predominant color, since the inner lining, laces, toebox and tongue have been dressed up in it. The outsole is also all-black but it rests beneath a contrasting pure white midsole. Maize makes its presence as more of a complimenting hue, visible as an accent on the tongue and over the Jordan Jumpman on the toebox.
Although it cannot exactly be called a remastered retro since Jordan Brand has not hinted that they have used the same materials that were used back in 1999. However, the returning Air Jordan 14 Low “Laney” stays true to the original that sneakerheads have been for 16 years to be up for grabs once again. Considering that Jordan Brand has confirmed it as Holiday 2015 release, Jordanheads will have the opportunity to cop it on one of the December Jordan release dates 2015.
