When Jordan Brand made the announcement that their retros from years ago would be remastered and re-released, the new concept was something that thrilled plenty of sneaker buyers. In fact, many Jordanheads felt that their wish had been granted since they had been hoping Jordan Brand would bring back classic Air Jordan sneaker colorways from the distant past. However, it is unlikely that they expected Air Jordan 1 High “Chicago” from the 80s to make its way back to retailers on one of the Jordan release dates in the next couple of months.
For quite some time now, sneakerheads had been noticing that the quality of Air Jordan sneakers had been declining over the years in comparison to their O.G. predecessors. Jordan Brand not only acknowledged their crimitism but even decided to award them by bringing back retro Air Jordan sneakers bearing the same quality they did when they first made their retail debut. The “Chicago” colorway of the Air Jordan 1 High is one such retro that is quite legendary since NBA banned Michael Jordan from wearing the pair.
The reason behind the ban was the fact when Jordan Brand introduced this Air Jordan 1 colorway for the very first time, it was originally a “Bred” iteration with barely any white. Even then, MJ continue sporting the kicks on the court and Nike gladly kept paying the $5,000 fine on his behalf since it served as a means of promoting the pair. However, the “Chicago” colorway that hit the shelves 30 years ago and is returning this year as a re-mastered retro was a redone version that featured more white.
This year’s rendition of this iconic Air Jordan 1 High colorway will not only resemble the appearance of the retail version of this pair that was released between 1984-1985, but will also consist of the same premium materials. This means that Jordanheads will get to lace up in sneakers dressed in red and white, with black laces, branding and black around the ankle as well. One of the May Jordan release dates, namely May 30th, has been confirmed as the date on which the Air Jordan 1 High OG “Chicago” will be retailing at a price of $160.
Release Date: May 30th, 2015
