During the MTV VMA broad that had taken place on the night of August 25th, Jordan Brand and Wieden Kennedy New York had debuted a power yet straightforward advertisement that stars Russell Westbrook, the point guard of the Oklahoma City Thunder. In the advertisement, an airplane runway serves as an atypical and unexpected court for The Westwolf’ upon which he makes a massive lay-up. In the background, an airplane can also be heard flying. Apart from making an appearance in this advertisement, Russell Westbrook is currently touring with Jordan Brand in China where he previewed a brand new but exclusive Air Jordan 31 colorway.
A voiceover in the advertisement can also be heard saying “Some run. Some make runways.” Ever since the showcase of this advertisement, basketball critics have been having discussions about it, some even claiming that it is targeting Kevin Durant for leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder. However, that is unlikely considering that Kevin is one of Nike’s own athletes with his own signature KD line. Nonetheless, Russell Westbrook is currently one of the most prominent Jordan Brand athletes at the moment and he is also the forerunner for the Air Jordan 31. No wonder, Jordan Brand hooked him up with a new, never-before-seen iteration to showcase.
The debut “Banned” colorway of the Air Jordan 31 just finally hit the shelves on September 3 and it is currently retailing at a price of $185. Ever since most of the colorways of the latest Air Jordan model that Jordan Brand has unveiled have somewhat been associated with the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, which is over now. As for the pair that Russell was spotted rocking, its leather and woven uppers appear to be dressed up in a Triple Black color scheme. The rear end of its midsoles also sport subtle Green-colored detailing, which adds a minor pop of color.
Last but not least, Russell Westbrook’s signature branding is also visible on the tongues of the sneaker featured here, which leaves no doubt that this is an exclusive rendition. That also kind of makes it obvious that Jordan Brand is unlikely to drop this Air Jordan 31 colorway, at least any time soon.
