2014 has somewhat been the year of the hybrids and now, 23 is Back brings release news of a very special Air Jordan Hybird, the Spiz’ike “OG,” which had made its retail debut back in 2006. It is true that retro sneakers always tend to cast a shadow on hybrid pairs like this one, but the original Jordan Spiz’ike is no ordinary Hybrid. The release news is sure to make readers feel nostalgic enough to want to add another date among the rest of the Jordan release dates they have marked on their calendars.
It was back in 2006 when the Spiz’ike sneaker had been introduced by Jordan Brand as a hybrid mash-up of various Air Jordan models associated with the catchy “Mars Blackmon” advertisement campaigns and Spike Lee. The original Jordan Spiz’ike had been released in a colorway that consisted of green, grey, red, and white in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of 40 Acres and a Mule, Spike Lee’s notable production company.
Much like the original pair from 2006, the upcoming Jordan Spiz’ike that is scheduled to be released very soon will once again comprise of a white leather upper with red accents. Similarly, the back heel and the toe box will be adorned with the elephant print panels. To complete the colorway, the inner lining will also be in green, while the predominantly white outer sole of this pair will feature traces of black, green and red.
By now, 23 is Back readers probably realize that Jordan Brand is releasing this original model of the Jordan Spiz’ike in honor of Spike Lee. As rumored, the Air Jordan Spiz’ike “OG” will indeed be released on August 9, and it is not the only Air Jordan sneaker making a debut on that day. Even the Air Jordan 6 “History of Jordan” will be making its retail debut on August 9. So, whether they want to cop the Spiz’ike or the Air Jordan 6, August 9 is one of those Jordan release dates 2014 that Jordan heads will not want to miss.
