Having hit the shelves four times before, the Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” is returning once more amongst next month’s Air Jordan releases 2019. The Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” was the sneaker Michael Jordan was wearing when he led the Chicago Bulls towards their first NBA championship victory and it was that very year that Jordan Brand released it. Following its original retail debut, it was re–released thrice, once in 2000, then in 2010, and finally in 2014. The most recent re-release was a remastered editions and so far, it was closest to the original, in terms of accuracy and resemblance. Perhaps this year’s version will be even better.
One of the recent Air Jordan releases 2019 was an “All–Star” colorway of the Air Jordan 33 that debuted a month before the All–Star Weekend. Earlier this month, Jordan Brand released an all–Red Air Jordan 33 iteration that looked like a hybrid of the Air Yeezy 2 “Red October” and the Don C x Air Jordan 2 due to featuring similar quilted uppers. In commemoration of the Chinese New Year, which officially begins on February 5th, a “Year of the Pig” colorway of the Air Jordan 33 will also be making its retail debut next month. Before that though, Jordan Brand recently dropped the “All-Star” colorway you see here.
The Chinese New Year is scheduled to begin on February 5th and Jordan Brand will commemorate the festival with two Air Jordan releases 2019. Nike is actually commemorating the Year of the Pig with an entire collection. The collection includes the Air Max 90, Air Max 98, Air Max 270 and the Kyrie 5. Also included is the Chuck 70. As a part of this collection, Jordan Brand will be dropping special colorways of two different models, namely the Air Jordan 12 and the Air Jordan 33. All of these sneakers will feature Chinese zodiac-inspired detailing and patterns, as well as Bai Jia Yi, which is Chinese patchwork.
This year’s Air Jordan releases 2019 will mark the retail debut of an Air Jordan 6 “Flint” inspired by a similar colorway from the past. The “Flint” is one of Jordan Brand’s most recognized and well-known colorways that dates back to February 14th, 1998 when it debuted on the Air Jordan 13. This Air Jordan 13 iteration was released three days before Michael Jordan’s 35th birthday and was dressed up in a combination of Carolina Blue, Flint Grey, Navy and White. It was retroed and then re–retroed in 2005 and 2010, respectively. However, the upcoming Air Jordan 6 colorway mentioned here is inspired by an entirely different “Flint” colorway.
As Jordan Brand keeps up with its annual tradition, so one of next year’s Air Jordan releases 2019 will celebrate the Chinese New Year. According to the Chinese zodiac, 2019 will be the Year of the Pig. The pig also happens to be the last animal in the Chinese 12–year cycle. The Chinese zodiac also claims that people born in the Year of the Pig tend to develop beautiful personalities and are likely to be blessed with good fortune in their lives. Much like last year and the years before it, Jordan Brand will once again be celebrating the Chinese New Year by releasing a new Air Jordan colorway.
For the 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 4, several new colorways of the model will be joining next year’s Air Jordan releases 2019. You may already know about the two Air Jordan 4 colorways that draw inspiration from Spike Lee’s comedy–drama film, Do the Right Thing. Based on the Photoshop illustrations, one of the two iterations seemed like it borrowed the colors from the Gucci stripes. Of course, they are both actually inspired by the Italian flag and “Sal’s Pizzeria” from the film. In addition to these two colorways though, many others will arrive next year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 4.
