If we take a hint from last year, it becomes obvious that January is the month in which Nike shifts its focus almost entirely towards its Air Max Day releases. Nike has been celebrating Air Max Day on March 26th every year ever since 2014. Three years later, 2016 marked the 30th anniversary of the model that started this line, the Air Max 1. The very first “Air Max Day” colorway of the Air Max 1 actually featured “3.26” on it tongue tabs. Of course, 2018 has only just begun and we’re only halfway through January, but Nike has already unveiled its entire Air Max Day 2018 Collection.
This year’s Air Max Day Collection apparently includes the following:
Air Max 1/97 SW: Air Max 1/97 SW was designed just last year by Sean Wotherspoon, who end up winning 2017’s Vote Forward competition thanks to this brand new Air Max model. Apart from combining elements from the Air Max 1 and 97, the Air Max 1/97 SW was inspired by ‘80s culture and vintage corduroy caps.
Air Max 93 “Menthol”: Designed by Tinker Hatfield, it drew inspiration from a milk-jug handle and possessed much larger Air units than its predecessors. The innovative thing about the Air Max 93 was its 270 degree units, which was blow-molded for the very first time.
Nike Air Max 180 “Ultramarine”: This was the first installment from the Air Max lineup to feature visible 180 degree Air units. The Air units that this sneaker was equipped with were directly bonded to its urethane outsoles.
Nike Air Max 270: This can be regarded as more of a lifestyle installment, which combined mesh uppers with 32mm heel bags, the largest that any Air Max silhouette has been equipped with. This is the reason it is more responsive than its predecessors.
Air VaporMax 97: The collection seems to include two different colorways of this model, which is a combination of the Air Max 97’s uppers and the Air VaporMax’s full-length Air Sole units.
Air VaporMax Plus: Also included in the collection is a men’s and women’s colorway of the Air VaporMax Plus, which is a combination of the Air Max Plus and the VaporMax. The Air VaporMax Plus will actually be making its debut on Air Max Day 2018.
Nike Air VaporMax 2.0: Last but not least, is this colorway of the Air VaporMax 2.0, which is also referred to as the Air VaporMax Flyknit 2. As its alternative name suggests, its uppers are completely made up of Flyknit material, which is the reason it is so extraordinarily flexible and lightweight.
There have been reports and rumors that the Air Max 98 might be making its highly awaited comeback in 2018. As for Nike’s Air Max Day 2018 Collection, all of the above sneakers are scheduled to be released on February 2nd, 2018.
