The fourteenth Air Jordan model made its very first, original retail debut back in 1998-1999. Jordan Brand had designed and released the Air Jordan 14 right after Michael Jordan’s second retirement from professional basketball. The Jumpman had dropped a total of eight colorways of the silhouette, three of which were in low-top form. To date, merely three of the Air Jordan 14’s OG colorways have received the retro treatment, and the “Indiglo” and “Oxidized Green” ones were not among them. Fortunately for sneakerheads hoping to see them return, it was revealed back in December last year that they would be one of Fall 2016’s Air Jordan releases.
With the exception of the low-top versions, Jordan Brand has not released a single ‘bad’ colorway of the Air Jordan 14, which is the reason it is among their top models and a fan-favorite. Back in November 2013, the Air Jordan 14 “Oxidized Green” was even worn by Andre Drummond of the Detroit Pistons while they struggled against the New York Knicks. Of course, since 2016 will mark the first time that the colorway is getting a retro release, Andre had very likely been wearing an OG pair from 1999. That is further evidence that the sneaker can withstand the wear and tear of modern day NBA action.
In more recent times, it turns out that Marcus Jordan has also laced up in this year’s version of the Air Jordan 14 “Oxidized Green” based on the on-feet photo of the sneaker he shared on his Twitter account (@heirmj). Much like the 1999 OG, the upcoming rendition is also dressed up in a combination of Black, Legend Blue, Metallic Silver, Oxidized Green and White. In particular, the uppers are predominantly clean White, while sporting contrasting Black and Metallic Silver accents. The sides of the sneaker feature the signature, Ferrari shield Jumpman logo, while the “23” that can be spotted on the heels is covered in Oxidized Green.
Last year when news about the return of these two Air Jordan 14 colorways had surfaced, a release somewhere in Fall 2016 was being alluded to. However, it is now confirmed that the Air Jordan 14 “Oxidized Green” will hit the shelves alongside the “Indiglo” iteration on July 16th and each sneaker’s retail price will be $190.
