As far back as September 2015, Jordan Brand had begun revealing its plans for 2016 and it turned out that these plans included bringing the Air Jordan 17 back. It has been 14 years since Jordan Brand had introduced its seventeenth signature model in 2002. Ever since then, the silhouette has been re-released as a retro only once when Jordan Brand had dropped it as a part of the Jordan 17/6 Collezione “Countdown Pack” in 2008. While the Air Jordan 17+ has already hit the shelves this year in a “Bulls” and a “Copper” colorway, but apparently the iteration featured here may never arrive at retailers.
The Air Jordan 17 was the first silhouette that Jordan Brand introduced after Michael Jordan made his comeback to the sport of basketball and joined the Washington Wizards. Instead of Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 17 had been designed by Wilson Smith, who had also designed the tremendously successful Air Jordan 16, which had never been worn by Michael Jordan on the court. By the time the Air Jordan 17 had been released, it ended up becoming Jordan Brand’s first silhouette to retail at a whopping price of $200. Furthermore, it has very limited colorways and it seems that one of them was never released.
Many sneakerheads probably recognize the iteration of the Air Jordan 17 featured here and that is because it is a sample of the model that many had gotten a glimpse at back in 2000. As many sneakerheads recall and can see here, the leather and nubuck uppers of this sneaker are dressed up in grey, while its inner booties, a portion of its midsoles and the tip of its toeboxes are all covered in Red. Adding the finishing touches, it also features Black-colored branding and Grey-colored tonal laces, while it also appears to be sporting a Chrome-colored heel counter and clean White outsoles.
Instagram user @Oregon_Sole is the one who shared the photo of this Air Jordan 17 sample that can be seen here. For the time being, sneakerheads can only dream of copping this colorway since Jordan Brand will not be dropping it any time soon.
