Many families have traveled to Rio de Janeiro in order to enjoy a week where they get to watch loads of Olympic events. Any foreigners who recently arrived in Rio may have noticed something odd. Namely, there are quite a few tanks on the side of various roads and lots of police officers carrying rifles almost everywhere. In the history of the Olympic Games, this seems to be the highest levels of security measures to have ever been taken. This year’s Olympics is already seemingly quite unique and Jordan Brand is ready to drop another unique Air Jordan 31 colorway in celebration of it.
As of now, various federal, military and state police personnel have been positioned on the side of all the major roads that lead to Olympic venues. Around the city, rows and rows of motorcycle officer teams are also positioned in case a rapid response is needed, such as in the case of an emergency. Anyone inside the Olympic beach volleyball arena will even be able to see the Brazilian navy warship that cruises off the shore of Copacabana Beach. This is still justified for a city hosting the Olympics, so Jordan Brand pays homage to Rio with this particular Air Jordan 31 iteration.
Considering that this latest Air Jordan 31 celebrates the 2016 Summer Olympics and is a tribute to Rio de Janeiro, it borrows from and is inspired by the traditional colors of the city. Its uppers, which are made up of a combination of flyweave and synthetic leather, are dressed up in vivid Blue and Green hues with a fading and gradient effect. The sneaker is also equipped with plain White-colored midsoles and icy, translucent outsoles.
By now, many sneakerheads are probably in Rio and will be busy with the Olympic Games, but they still would not want to miss out on copping a pair of this sneaker. According to the Nike SNKRS app, this Air Jordan 31 “Rio” will make its retail debut on August 12th and will be available for $185.
