To date, Laika Entertainment has produced three animated feature films that have been nominated for Oscars, namely Coraline (2009), ParaNorman (2012) and The Boxtrolls (2014). The latest animated feature from the studio based in Portland, Oregon is Kubo and the Two Strings, which is scheduled to be released in the United States on August 19th. This weekend will also mark the opening of the “From Coraline to Kubo: A Magical Laika Experience,” an art exhibit by Laika that will take place at Hollywood’s Globe Theatre. Now, Jordan Brand has teamed up with Laika Studios for a special iteration of the returning Air Jordan 15.
By now, just about every sneakerhead is aware that the Air Jordan 15 is scheduled to among Jordan releases 2017 in its OG “Stealth” colorway. However, the man who designed this model is apparently not very fond of it. In a recent candid interview, Tinker Hatfield revealed that the Air Jordan 15 is his least favorite silhouette from Jordan Brand’s sneaker line. Apparently, the collaboration between Jordan Brand and Laika Entertainment provided Tinker with the opportunity to improve the design of the Air Jordan 15, which he has apparently done.
Tinker seems to have made a few alterations, such as the addition of a zipper and enhanced inner ankle booties, which look neater. Since Kubo and the Two Strings revolves around the battle between good and evil, so both these renditions of the Air Jordan 15 feature alternating color blocking. Both sneakers have predominantly ominous Black-colored uppers, while the accent hue on one colorway is Blue and one the other it is Red. Unique branding, likely inspired from the animated feature film, can also be spotted on both.
Fans of the previous films by Laika Entertainment and those planning to watch Kubo and the Two Strings are probably excited about copping a pair and perhaps even wearing it when they head to cinemas. These Kubo x Air Jordan 15 colorways were officially unveiled on August 4th, but a release date has yet to be announced.
