“If you got wings, you can fly.” These are the words of Larry Miller, the President of Jordan Brand. When the global WINGS Program was launched by Jordan Brand back in 2010, their goal was to “give everybody wings,” especially students who cannot afford and expect to go to college. Ever since 2010, more than 200 students have been able to pay for higher education and attend college thanks to the “full ride” scholarships they received through Jordan Brand’s WINGS program. Drawing inspiration from their own WINGS Program, Jordan Brand seems to have whipped quite an eye-catching and unique iteration of the Air Jordan 5.
Education has always been important to Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan was already a millionaire when he returned back to school and resumed his education in order to acquire a degree. It was parents and his teachers that taught Michael Jordan to place such a high value on education, and they inadvertently inspired him to create the WINGS Program. Until 2009, Jordan Brand’s WINGS Program was known as the Jordan Fundamentals Program and it had donated over $10 million to impoverished schools as financial aid. Jordan Brand recently posted a YouTube video, officially announcing the names of the 26 lucky students who have received a WINGS Scholarship in 2018.
As a nod to their WINGS Program, Jordan Brand have already previously released “Wings” iterations of the Air Jordan 1 and the Air Jordan 12. Students who recently graduated with the help of a WINGS scholarship even received a pair of the Air Jordan 12 “Michigan.” This Air Jordan 5 “Wings” appears to be quite elaborate, with its uppers dressed up in a combination of Mint Green and White, and featuring a variety of different graphics and sketches. A Red-colored “Jumpman” logo is also embroidered on each heel. Like the previous similar releases, a limited number of pairs of this Air Jordan 5 “Wings are going to be available.
