Jordan Brand’s 30th Anniversary celebrations would be incomplete if at least a few Air Jordan 9 pairs were not released this year, especially considering how long it has been since JB’s ninth silhouette was last seen at retailers. The good news for Jordanheads is that not one but actual two different retro colorways of the Air Jordan 9 will be making a comeback this year. While they may not be remastered retros, Summer Jordan release dates 2015 will be providing an opportunity to cop two separate Air Jordan 9 pairs from the past that many sneaker collectors do not already own.
Back in February 1994, Michael Jordan joined the Birmingham Barsons in order to live his dream of becoming a professional baseball player. Despite MJ’s departure from the NBA, the Air Jordan basketball sneaker line did not cease to exist and thus, the Air Jordan 9 was designed by Tinker Hatfield with help from Mark Smith for the graphics. The unique thing about the Air Jordan 9 model is that it was never worn by Michael Jordan on a basketball court. Nonetheless, exclusive versions of the Air Jordan 9 were still spotted on court that year on the feets of professional basketball players like BJ Armstrong, Kendall Gill and Penny Hardaway.
Despite Michael Jordan’s absence from professional basketball, the ninth model of the sneaker line named after him took inspiration from his retirement and embarking upon a professional baseball career. The upper of the Air Jordan 9 was designed to consist of a combination leather, mesh and nubuck leather wrapped around the toe. Just like the Air Jordan 7 and 8, the Air Jordan 9 also contained an inner booty sock liner. Another unique thing about the Air Jordan 9 at the time was its innovative one-pull lacing system, while the midsole was made of polyurethane and the outsole was made of rubber.
Apparently, the Air Jordan 9 was meant to be a representation of Michael Jordan’s transition from basketball to baseball. @zsneakerheadz on Instagram has claimed that specific August and September Jordan release dates 2015 will be marking the retail debut of the “White/Black-Militia Green” and Anthracite/White-Black” Air Jordan colorways, respectively. With Spring gradually transitioning into Summer, Jordanheads should begin saving up in order to get their hands on either or both these new jordans.
