In 2017, Nike will celebrate and commemorate the 29th anniversary of the iconic Air Max franchise and the Air Max 1 model by hosting Air Max Day. A voting feature had been set up by Nike Sportswear where sneakerheads were provided the opportunity to cast their vote for which Air Max 1 iteration from the distant past should be brought back. This voting feature included some of the most highly-coveted Air Max 1 releases that Nike dropped in the past 29 years, one of them being the atmos x Nike Air Max 1 “Elephant.” Now, Jordan Brand has drawn inspiration from it for this upcoming Air Jordan 7 colorway.
It was actually not very surprising that the atmos x Nike Air Max 1 “Elephant” ended up being the winner of the recent Air Max Vote Back that Nike conducted. It is probably obvious that the release of the Air Max 1 “Elephant” was the result of a collaboration between atmos, the Japanese footwear boutique, and Nike. The atmos x Nike Air Max 1 “Elephant” had originally made its retail debut back in 2006 and it had ended up being tremendousl successful. Along with sporting a Black, Bright Blue-Green and White color scheme, the sneaker borrowed from the Air Jordan 3 by featuring elephant print-colored overlays and panels.
It seems that Jordan Brand will dropping numerous Air Jordan 6 releases in 2017 and apparently many of them are going to GS-exclusives like the one featured here. This Air Jordan 6 iteration is inspired by and resembled the Air Max 1 “Elephant.” Hence, its uppers are mostly plain White, while Black is the secondary hue and appears throughout. Moreover, Aqua-colored accents in the form of the “Jumpman” branding can also be spotted. The thing that sets this sneaker apart from the mentioned Air Max 1 is that no elephant print detailing is visible on it.
Air Max Day is scheduled to take place on March 26th and that is when the atmos x Nike Air Max 1 “Elephant” will make its comeback. As for the Air Jordan 6 GS seen here, which has no nickname yet, it will be joining the Spring Jordan releases 2017.
