Before Michael Jordan had signed with Nike, he actually used to dream of rocking adidas sneakers on the court upon becoming a part of the NBA. Back when he playing for the North Carolina Tar Heels, he used to wear Converse sneakers, much like the rest of his teammates. Unfortunately for adidas, it had been a bad time for the brand back then following the death of Adi Dassler, the company’s founder, and so the Three Stripes never made an offer. That is how Michael Jordan during his rookie years, ultimately ended up signing a contract with Nike and this latest Air Jordan 31 draws inspiration from it.
Michael Jordan had actually been very disappointed when adidas had not made him a definite offer. Despite that he had even showed up at Converse headquarters, it was ultimately Nike that moved in and swept the rookie who would end up becoming the G.O.A.T. Nike clearly saw Michael Jordan’s potential and what he could end up accomplishing in the future. At the time when Nike had been in talks with Michael Jordan, he was shown the iconic Black and Red colorway of the Air Jordan 1, which has ever since been dubbed the “Bred” iteration. The latest Air Jordan 31 has been inspired by all of this.
The photos seen accompanying this post had been shared by Instagram user @jiayfreddy131. This brand new colorway of the Air Jordan 31 has been dubbed “Fine Print” and it is probably obvious what fine print it is referring to, namely the contract that Michael Jordan had signed with Nike. Even the Black and White color scheme of this sneaker is a reference to the contact. The areas of this sneaker are referring to the contract’s white-colored paper and the Black accents and detailing are all referring to the black-colored ink on the contract. At the same time, Wolf Grey also makes an appearance here and there for the sake of contrast.
With the recent release of the Air Jordan 31 “Banned,” sneakerheads are probably assuming that this new colorway may not arrive until later this year. On the contrary, it is being reported that this sneaker will be among September 2016’s Jordan releases. In fact, it will apparently retail at a price of $185 on September 17th.
