Air Jordan 14: 1998–1999
It was during the 1998–1999 season, back when Michael Jordan made the announcement of his retirement for the second time, when Jordan 14 was released. Michael Jordan retired soon after the NBA players union strike that started on June 30, 1998.
Yet again, Tinker Hatfield designed Jordan 14 , after being inspired by the Ferrari 55M that Michael Jordan owned. For the very first time, the Air Jordan featured built in trivia and metal tips. There were 7 jumpman featured on shoe, making a total of 14 jumpman seen on the pair. To make the point that this was indeed the 14th shoe released by Jordan Brand, the number 14 was featured on the back of the pair in Roman numerals.
Michael Jordan was wearing the pair during the 87-86 Game, which the Bulls won, and he scored the game-winning field goal when there were just 5.2 seconds left. To commemorate this awesome and legendary feat of Michael Jordan, the pair Black/Red pair of Jordan 14 was dubbed “Last Shots.” The colorway was regarded as both an original and a retro, and countless Jordan shoe fans were seeking it.
New colorways of the original Jordan 14 and the Retro, which was released in 2005, just keep on coming. Although the Air Jordan 6 and Air Jordan 10 have been dominating, two upcoming colorways of Jordan 14 put two new models in the mix. The first is the “Sport Blue” colorway and another unnamed pair was unveiled by Andy Oliver recently.
