No so long ago, 23isBack readers had been informed of the fact that Drake, the Canadian rapper and recording artist, has been an official member of Team Jordan for quite some time. Readers of this blog might also be aware that Jordan Brand had given him his own exclusive “OVO” versions of Jordan 10 and Jordan 12. Although this has nothing to do with any upcoming Jordan 2014 or jordan release dates 2015 news, sneakerheads probably recall a certain ordeal involving Drake that created quite a buzz in the sneaker community back in 2009.
Ever since 2009, it has commonly been assumed by many sneaker enthusiasts that a fake purple-colored pair of Jordan 5 was worn by Drake that year. Drake has often been criticized in the comment section of articles that discuss his interest in sneakers. In fact, even his status of being a sneakerhead has been question because he supposedly wore fake Air Jordans. However, it is the critics who are somewhat mistaken.
The fact of the matter is that this “fake” pair of the Air Jordan 5 was actually not a fake, despite the fact that it boasted a purple suede upper and the side panels featured stitching through them. The pair was actually a custom designed by C. Williams. So, the truth is that Drake had sported custom but real Jordans, but there is still a reason that Jordans may despise still his particular pair simply because of the particular colorway that Williams altered.
It was the Air Jordan V “Black Metallic” that served as the base sneaker for the purple custom pair that Drake had showcased. The “Black Metallic” is a pair that was worn by Michael Jordan in his final year in the NBA. It is the pair that was worn by Will Smith back when he used to sport blue and neon yellow hat as the Fresh Prince.
Hopefully, readers of 23isBack do not care about Drake’s alleged fake Air Jordans because they are more curious about upcoming Jordan 2014 and Jordan 2015 release news. However, since he never wore fakes, it is agreeable that Drake belongs as a part of the Jordan Team.
