The lyrics of Drake’s explicit rap song “Summer Sixteen” includes the line “I might get a key to the city and give it to Wayne.” On February 12th of this year, this particular line from his song actually ended up becoming a reality when John Tory, the mayor of Toronto, gave him the key to the city for being the “world’s most famous Torontonian.” Other illustrious celebrities and personalities who also hold the key include the Celine Dion, the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela. Along with the key to Toronto, Drake also received two Player Exclusive iterations of the Air Jordan 8.
The key happens to be the highest honor of Toronto and it was presented to Drake at the city’s Ricoh Coliseum on the basketball court where Team USA was defeated by Team Canada during the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. Aubrey Drake Graham, which is Drake’s real name, is inscribed in the metal key. Drake is known for his love for Toronto, and promoting the city as much as and whenever he possibly can, so he certainly deserved to receive the key. Air Jordan 8 PEs, which were dubbed the “OVO Kentucky” colorways, were an added bonus.
Although Drake is the only who has the rare sneakers as a part of his Air Jordan collection, Instagram user @bigktheboss somehow managed to take photos of the kicks and shared them. Since the photos are more detailed than previous ones, it can be seen that the color scheme of the nearly all-Black and all-White sneaker is inspired by the Kentucky Wildcats, while its heel tabs feature the “OVO” logo. The tongues of this sneaker also sport a Red-colored Jumpman logo, which was not visible in its precious on-feet photos.
As mentioned, the Air Jordan 8 “OVO Kentucky” iterations are one-of-one sneaker, which obviously means that they will likely never be up for grabs. However, they probably remind Jordanheads of the upcoming Air Jordan 8 Championship Pack colorways, which they will definitely be able to cop.
