Jordan Brand seems to have once again drawn inspiration from Michael Jordan‘s Alma mater for one of next year’s Air Jordan releases 2019. Of course, this is not the first time that an Air Jordan 1 colorway has been inspired by the North Carolina Tar Heels. In fact, the OFF–WHITE x Air Jordan 1 “UNC” made its retail debut earlier this year, on June 19th, at a price of $190. The Air Jordan 1 has also featured patent leather in the past. However, it is after quite a long time that Jordan Brand will be releasing a premium Air Jordan 1 rendition completely made up of patent leather.
As of lately, Jordan Brand seems to have been dropping quite a few Air Jordan releases 2018 that have been in dressed in the colors of Michael Jordan’s alma mater, the University of North Carolina. Earlier last month, Jordan Brand dropped an Air Jordan 32 “UNC” colorway as a tribute to all the national championships that the university has won over the years. The Air Jordan 32 “UNC” made its retail debut on March 9th, 2018 at a price of $185. The same day, Jordan Brand released a “UNC” colorway of the Jordan Why Not Zer0.1 and now an Air Jordan 4 “UNC” is also on its way. The University of North Carolina, the university where Michael Jordan studied and technically began his basketball career, has always been a leading source of inspiration for Air Jordan colorways. Back in 2015, when the Air Jordan 1 High OG “UNC” was set to arrive at retailers, everyone was fairly certain that the sneaker would not remain on the shelves for long. This was indeed the case, especially since the colorway had made its first comeback ever since Jordan Brand originally dropped it in 1985. The Air Jordan releases 2017 already included a UNC-themed release, but now it seems that there is going to be another one next month. Sneakerheads might be familiar with the Air Jordan 6 Low GS “Mint Foam,” which recently made its retail debut on July 8th, 2017 at a price of $120. The sneaker looks identical to the Air Jordan 13 GS colorway of the same name, which will be joining the Air Jordan releases 2017 that hit the shelves later this month. THis Air Jordan 6 Low colorway has nubuck upper with textured leather underlays, dressed up predominantly in a dark Anthracite hue and featuring Mint Foam-colored detailing. It seems that two of Jordan Brand’s Air Jordan 6 releases for the Fall and Winter months have also been unveiled. In 2017, Jordan Brand seems to be quite interested in dropping colorways of its iconic models that are inspired by Michael Jordan’s alumni, the University of North Carolina. Earlier this month, Jordan Brand brought back the Air Jordan 11 Low “UNC.” Carolina Blue was one of the official colors of both UNC and the UNC Tar Heels, the team Michael Jordan played as a part of during his college years. Hence, such colorways are usually dubbed either “Carolina,” “Pantone” or “UNC.” Reports from reliable sources from Twitter users like @DJFolk and @soleheatonfeet, an Air Jordan 6 “UNC” will end up joining upcoming Air Jordan releases 2017. In their most recent game against the Louisville Cardinals at the Dean E. Smith Center, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels were victorious with a score of 74-63. This was more than just a regular win since it marked their ninth top-5 Rating Percentage Index victory. This also means that over the course of 13 years, the team’s coach Roy Williams will end up winning the ACC regular-season title for the eighth time, which is quite impressive. Equally impressive is the Air Jordan 31 Low iteration featured here, which is dressed up in a Tar Heels-inspired color scheme because it has been designed exclusively for them.
