It was back in 1971 when Carolyn Davidson, a graphic design student from Portland State University, had created the Swoosh logo for Phil Knight, the founder of Nike. The Nike logo apparently symbolizes motion and speed. “Swoosh” apparently also refers to the sound possibly heard when an NBA athlete like Michael Jordan moves at high speed across the basketball court and. Perhaps that is why the Swoosh was present on Nike’s first Jordan Brand sneaker, only to be absent from the Air Jordan 2 onwards. Now it seems even that even these new Air Jordan 1 iterations will not feature the silhouette’s trademark side Swooshes.
Summer is underway and the Air Jordan 1 Low seems to have shed off the Swoosh, which has been the model’s signature element, for this brand new collection. Apparently, Jordan Brand took a minimalist approach towards designing these Air Jordan 1 Low renditions, but should be obvious that they did not compromise on the quality and style of the sneakers. This is likely the reason these sneakers are made up of full-grain tumbled leather with soft inner linings. The Arctic Orange, Black and Olive Air Jordan 1 Low “No Swoosh” colorways are already scheduled to retail at a price of $150 on May 21st, but it is possible that another one is in the works as well.
Dino Hatfield, who is known for leaking Jordan Brand-related information, recently posted an on-foot photo on his Instagram account (@baltsneakershow) of a brand new, Air Jordan 1 Low “No Swoosh.” Unlike the three that are on their way to retailers, this never-before-seen iteration appears to be all-white. This colorway is really taking the minimalist aesthetic to a whole new level, but once again it sports the same full-grain tumbled leather construction and the Nike Swoosh is nowhere to be seen.
As of now, it is more than likely that this sneaker is actually a sample, so it would be hard to confirm whether or not it will be among the Air Jordan releases 2016. Fortunately, Jordanheads still have the opportunity to cop all or any of the three Air Jordan 1 Low “No Swoosh” sneakers that are set to make their retail debut.
