It would not be an overstatement to claim that the Air Jordan Spiz’ike is kind of a rarity. Back in 2016, not even a single colorway of the hybrid model ended up arriving at retailers. Then again, the year before it marked the retail debut of several different Spiz’ike colorways, namely the GS “Soar,” GS “Taz,” “Oreo,” “Turquoise Blue / Infrared 23″ and “White/Poison Green.” Adult fans of the silhouette are probably hoping to receive the opportunity to cop a brand new iteration in 2017. Fortunately for them, not only will a Spiz’ike colorway be joining upcoming Air Jordan releases 2017, it will be an OG one.
Although the Air Jordan Spiz’ike did not hit the shelves at all last year, an iteration of the model that never made it to retailers did surface back in July 2016. It was being referred to as the “Wheat” iteration and sneakerheads can probably guess what it looked like. The photo was actually posted on some Japanese website (f.hatena.ne.jp) and since there had been no other news about the sneaker, it is hard to determine if it was even a real colorway. Nonetheless, the photo showcased a Spiz’ike pair with Tan-colored suede uppers, Brown-colored elephant print overlays and some Black in the mix.
Most, if not all, sneakerheads will agree that one of Jordan Brand’s best hybrid models is undoubtedly the Spiz’ike. This is perhaps because it borrows elements and features from so many different Air Jordan retro silhouettes while still being unique. The colorway of the Jordan Spiz’ike seen above is one of its original ones, better known as the “Cement” colorway. While it features predominantly clean White-colored uppers, Grey appears over its elephant print overlays and mudguards and Red covers its inner lining, heel branding, honeycomb eyelets and sole units.
This will not be the only Spiz’ike OG colorway that Jordan Brand is bringing back this year, rather another original, the “White/Varsity Red-Cement Grey-Black” will also be joining it. The Air Jordan Spiz’ike “Cement” and the other OG colorway can both be expected to make their comeback as a part of Summer’s Air Jordan releases 2017.
