The 2018 NBA All-Star Game took place on February 18th in Los Angeles at the Staples Center. This year, Jordan Brand celebrated the All-Star festivities by unveiling several colorways of the Air Jordan 3, including the Air Jordan 3 “Tinker” and a revamped sample version of the Air Jordan 3 “White Cement.” However, since there were no special All-Star Air Jordan releases 2018, you are probably looking forward to next year’s All-Star Weekend. The 2019 NBA All-Star Weekend is scheduled to take place on February 17th next year and apparently, a “University Blue” colorway of the Air Jordan 9 will hit the shelves during next year’s All-Star Weekend.
University Blue is actually another name for Carolina Blue, which is the shade of that appears over the logo of the University of North Carolina. The North Carolina Tar Heels, the university’s basketball team, uses a slight variation of the shade, which is the reason it is often also called Tar Heel blue. Since Michael Jordan studied at the university and was a member of the Tar Heels, Jordan Brand frequently adopts the Carolina blue shade for Air Jordan colorways. Some of the popular “Carolina” colorways include those of the Air Jordan 1, Air Jordan 2, Air Jordan 10, Air Jordan 11, Air Jordan 11 Low and others.

However, Michael Jordam actually laced up in this Air Jordan 9 iteration for a Champs Sports advertisement back in 1994, which can be seen above. Eventually, it made its retail debut in retro form back in May 2010. Like the original, next year’s version will have plain, nearly all-White uppers with Black-colored detailing. A dark Power Blue (Carolina) shade appears over the inner lining, midsoles and the “AIR JORDAN” branding on the tongues. This Air Jordan 9 “University Blue” will be among February’s Air Jordan releases 2019 and will retail for $190.
