Michael Jordan may have retired from the sport of basketball, but his connection with the world of sneakers remains unchanged. In fact, the first post-retirement Nike sneaker from his own line, a brand new model by the name of Kobe A.D., is already scheduled to arrive at retailers on November 22nd. Even Jordan Brand has dropped a handful of sneakers in homage to the Black Mamba. After playing as a part of the Los Angeles Lakers for 20 years, Kobe announced his retirement back in April. During his career, Kobe had once worn the Air Jordan 9 and Jordan Brand will drop that Lakers-theme colorway this year.
Back in October, Author Roland Lazenby published the autobiography of the 17-time All-Star, titled “Showboat: The Life of Kobe Bryant.” The book is insightful and riveting, not only divulging in Kobe’s obvious dedication to the sport, but also shedding light on his relationships, both in his personal life and in the world of business. The book covers the leap he made from a high schooler to become a professional athlete as well as the period when he had initially signed with adidas. Ever since switching over to Nike, Kobe’s relationship with the company and its brands like Jordan Brand has remained solid and strong to this very day.
adidas’ loss is most definitely proving to be Nike’s gain and the Three Stripes is probably regretting it. Alongside Nike, Kobe Bryant’s connection with Jordan Brand also goes very deep. After adidas had let go of him, leaving him unsigned with any footwear brand, the Air Jordan 9 was the first unofficial model that he rocked soon after signing with Nike. He received a PE iteration, with its heel featuring Kobe’s number “8.” The Concord- and White-colored rendition of the Air Jordan 9 seen here is the same one, but this retail version will bear the traditional Tour Yellow-colored Jordan “23” branding on the heels.
Finishline.com rencently shared the latest photos of this sneaker. Sneakerheads are probably feeling lucky to have this opportunity to cop a pair of the Air Jordan 9 “Kobe Bryant PE,” which has been confirmed to make its retail debut on November 19th and be available for $190.
