It has been confirmed by Jordan Brand that the Air Jordan 8 will be receiving the “Alternate” treatment in 2017. Another Air Jordan 8 release that has been confirmed by Jordan Brand for this year was initially believed to have been designed in collaboration with Undefeated. It later turned out that it was actually inspired by 2005’s special Air Jordan 4 “Undefeated” iteration. The Air Jordan 4 “Undefeated” was inspired by the MA-1 Flight Jacket and merely 72 pairs had been available exclusively via Undefeated’s charity auctions. Thus, it makes sense that the Air Jordan 8 iteration featured here was dubbed “Take Flight” and included in the “Take Flight” Pack
The MA-1 flight jacket was introduced back in the mid-1950s for the ground crew and pilots of the U.S. Air Force and Navy. The collar, cuffs and waistband of the jacket were made of knitted wool since it had been designed to be worn in temperatures between 14 and 50 degrees F. Unlike the B-15 jacket that came before it, the jacket did not feature a mouton fur collar to prevent interference with the parachute harness that aviators used to wear. Over the years, MA-1 flight jacket has undergone tremendous evolution and today, this classic jacket is being produced in many variations by Alpha Industries.
Thus, the Air Jordan 8 featured here draws its inspiration from both the Air Jordan 4 “Undefeated” and the MA-1 flight jacket, but the LA-based streetwear label has no direct connection with it. Regardless of the rumors, Jordan Brand has not really collaborated with Undefeated once again. The nubuck uppers of this Air Jordan 8 iteration are predominantly dressed up in Sequoia Green, while its rear mudguards, sole units and tongues also sports hits of Black- and Wolf Grey-colored detailing. Last but not least, Max Orange also appears over this sneaker.
The returning Air Jordan 15 “Flight Jacket” or “Stealth” from Jordan Brand’s “Take Flight” Pack already hit the shelves quite recently. Now, this Air Jordan 8 “Take Flight” is also arriving at retailers on January 28th, 2017, where its adult-sized pairs will be available at a price of $190 and its GS-sized pairs will be available for $140.
