It was back in 2007 when Nike had first joined forces with the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, setting up the Freestyle Program. The program began providing the young patients from the hospital the opportunity to design special “Doernbecher” iterations of some of Jordan Brand’s and Nike’s most noteworthy models. Ever since 2007, the Freestyle Program has led to the release of at least one Air Jordan “Doernbecher” colorway every year and not too long ago there was even a re-release. For this year’s “Doernbecher,” it seems that the Air Jordan 7 is the model of choice and it will be among Fall 2016’s Jordan release.
It was in late November 2015, during the weekend, when the launch of last year’s Nike “Doernbecher” Collection took place. As has been the case since the past couple of years, the most anticipated silhouette from the collection was an Air Jordan. More specifically, it was a reptilian Air Jordan 13 rendition that had been designed by an 11-year-old boy and its pairs had retailed at a price of $225 each. The “Doernbecher” versions of Air Jordan models also end up being some of the most expensive once resellers get their hands on them and it kind of defeats the whole purpose behind the Freestyle Program.
Nonetheless, this year’s “Doernbecher” will be here in Fall. In Fall 2016, the young patients from the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital will once again get to work with Jordan Brand and Nike to whip up brand new sneakers using their creativity and ingenuity. Even though the “Doernbecher” colorways have always been designed by these kids with a little help, generally they have always been rather dope and this year’s Air Jordan release will likely not be any different. The name of the child who will be designing the Air Jordan 7 “Doernbecher” has not yet been announced, so there is no way of knowing what it will look like yet. So, stay tuned for more news related to the 2016 “Doernbecher” Collection.
