Michael Jordan has had a memorable and momentous career and one of his biggest supporters was Spike Lee. Michael had starred in a number of successful commercials with the Academy Award-winning actor, director, producer and writer for the Air Jordan 3, 4, 5 and 6. In 1993, Michael had even starred in a commercial with Bugs Bunny in which he was laced up in a never-before-seen Air Jordan 8 pair. In 2013, Jordan Brand actually dropped an Air Jordan 8 “Bugs Bunny” with a varying color scheme. Apparently as a part of the Air Jordan releases 2017, the Air Jordan 6 is next in line to receive the “Hare” treatment.
Despite being a fictional character, Bugs Bunny himself is quite an icon and the 1993 commercial was not the first time that him and MJ appeared on screen together. A year before that in 1992, Michael and Bugs had also starred together in a Spike Lee-directed commercial for the Air Jordan 7. That commercial likely provided quite a bit of inspiration for the Air Jordan 7 “Hare” that made its retail debut in 2008 and made a comeback in retro form in Spring 2015. Although Dank Customs showcased an Air Jordan 6 “Hare” earlier this year, now Jordan Brand has whipped up the an actual “Hare” colorway.
2017 will mark the first time that the Air Jordan 6 will have an official association with Bugs Bunny and be dressed up in the signature “Hare” color scheme. This upcoming Air Jordan 6 iteration actually borrows design elements from 2015’s AIr Jordan 7 “Hare.” Thus, it has plain White uppers made up of leather and nubuck that primarily also feature Light Grey detailing. However, instead of a colorful zigzag pattern, bright tonal Red makes an appearance over its perforated heels, midsoles, outsoles and tongues.
As a nod to the Air Jordan 6’s year of debut, the inner area of each tongue also has 1991 stitched onto it. Sneakerheads can expect this Air Jordan 6 “Hare” to arrive at select Jordan Brand and Nike retailers somewhere in March 2017, and they will be able to cop a pair at a price of $190.
