Having hit the shelves four times before, the Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” is returning once more amongst next month’s Air Jordan releases 2019. The Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” was the sneaker Michael Jordan was wearing when he led the Chicago Bulls towards their first NBA championship victory and it was that very year that Jordan Brand released it. Following its original retail debut, it was re–released thrice, once in 2000, then in 2010, and finally in 2014. The most recent re-release was a remastered editions and so far, it was closest to the original, in terms of accuracy and resemblance. Perhaps this year’s version will be even better.
Differences Between The First Three Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” Versions
Over the course of debuting in 1991, and then being re-released in 2000 and 2010, the overall shape of the Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” changed since Jordan Brand used different lasts for the two retro versions. Instead of nubuck, the uppers of the 2000 version were made of suede that felt and looked like velour fabric. The “Infrared” colorway was released during a period when the Air Jordan 6 was the last sneaker model from Jordan Brand to be equipped with Vis–Air cushioning. Jordan Brand eventually improved the cushioning system of the Air Jordan 6 and so the retro “Infrared” version from 2000 featured relatively larger visible air units.
The Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” Is Returning During The 2019 NBA All-Star Game
While it probably cannot be regarded as an exact replica, the Air Jordan 6 “Infrared” version that will be joining next month’s Air Jordan releases 2019 looks almost identical to the original from 1991. The overall design and shape of the sneaker itself is slightly, if not entirely, different. Of course, the color scheme is still the same, i.e. Black and Infrared, and the original “Nike Air” branding is once again featured over the heels. Each lace lock is nearer to the tongue rather than down below by the toe box. Last but not least, its icy, translucent outsoles have a Blue tint, which will likely not get yellow.
