Back in 2016, Jordan Brand unveiled the Air Jordan 1 Satin as a limited edition variation of the model, which made its retail debut on October 18th that year at a price of $175. This was the first time that a majority of the Air Jordan 1’s uppers were made up of satin material instead of the traditional leather. At the time of its debut, the Air Jordan 1 Satin was dressed up in the “Banned” or “Bred” color scheme. For the very first time, the Air Jordan 5 is also receiving the Satin treatment and it will also be dressed up in a “Bred” color scheme.
Some Of The Previous Air Jordan Satin Releases
Back in February 2017, a Jordan Brand employee was spotted laced up in an Air Jordan 1 Satin “Royal” in Las Vegas at the Agenda Show and the pair was apparently later gifted to fashion designer Kim Jones. The first collaboration between Jordan Brand and Alieali May also involved an Air Jordan 1 High Satin/Corduroy iteration that sported the “Shadow” color scheme. It later arrived at retailers on October 28th, 2017. Earlier this year, Jordan Brand also recreated the “Shattered Backboard” colorway of the Air Jordan 1 for its Satin variation. Until now though, Jordan Brand did not utilize satin on any of their other signature sneaker models.
The Air Jordan 5 Satin “Bred” Dates Back To 1990
The Air Jordan 5 Satin in this “Bred” colorway featured here actually precedes the Air Jordan 1 Satin because it was actually designed as a prototype back in 1990 and never ended up hitting the shelves. As you can see, its uppers are made up of silky satin and are covered predominantly in Black, with clear mesh netting on the sides. It is also equipped with reflective tongues, all-Red midsoles with Black-colored shark-tooth and speckles, and translucent, icy outsoles. Instead of the traditional branding, the left and right tongue tongues have “Recognize” and “Greatness” embroidered onto them, both of which are a nod to Michael Jordan.
The Air Jordan 5 Retro Satin “Bred” is set to make its retail debut on November 3rd, 2018 at a price of $190. Once it joins this month’s Air Jordan releases 2018, it will be available in full family sizes at retailers like Champs, Eastbay, Finish Line, Foot Locker, Sneaker Politics, and on Nike.com.
