It has been twenty-two years since the Air Jordan 4 was introduced back in 1989. It wasn’t until ten years later that Jordan Brand started re-releasing them in retro form back in 1999. Whether you already know it, or have figured out just now, next year marks the 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 4. Hence, it is only natural to expect numerous retro colorways, and even returning original colorways, of the model to join next year’s Air Jordan releases 2019. Among the retro ones will be the Air Jordan 4 SE “Black Gum” you see here. In case you’re wondering what the “SE” means, then keep reading.
What Is The Air Jordan 4 “SE”?
When it comes to the sneaker community, considering the evolution it has undergone over the years, it should not surprise you that it has its own diverse terminology. Over the course of reading the posts on SneakersDog, you have likely become familiar with terms like “colorways,” “kicks,” “PEs,” and many others. “SE” is one term that has never really been used before and it apparently stands for “Special Edition.” However, it is uncertain what makes this particular Air Jordan 4 colorway a “Special Edition.” During the Holiday Season back in 2014, the Air Jordan 1 actually made its retail debut sporting a similar “Black/Black-Gum Light Brown” color scheme.

The photo at the top was shared by zSneakerHeadz. Since this Air Jordan 4 SE colorway is scheduled to make its retail debut next year, so perhaps Jordan Brand might end up revealing why it is a Special Edition. Part of its nickname refers to its sleek, nearly all-Black leather uppers, while its forefoot and rear lace wings are plain White. It is also equipped with all-White midsoles and Gum Rubber outsoles, while a similar gum-like Gold or Light Brown hue can also be spotted over the “Jumpman” on the tongues. This Special Edition colorway will apparently hit the shelves on January 19, 2019 and retail for $200.
