The Air Jordan 32 Will Debut In This “MJ Day” Colorway In October

Sneakerheads reading this post may have read about it and heard about it many times before, but the tale behind the NBA banning Michael Jordan’s pair of Air Jordan basketball sneakers is worth mentioning again. The tale that most sneakerheads probably know is that the NBA fined Michael Jordan $5,000 for not adhering to NBA’s uniform standard and it was NBA that paid the fine. However, some reports claim that it was actually the Nike Air Ship that got banned. Regardless, Jordan Brand is apparently referring to that historic moment as “Michael Jordan Day” and inspired by it, the Air Jordan 32’s debut colorway has been dubbed “MJ Day.”

There is actually no complete record proving which sneakers Michael Jordan really wore back in 1984 during his rookie year. The only thing that is certain is that the color scheme of the kicks that Michael Jordan rocked that year did not match the uniforms of the Chicago Bulls since black and red were not their colors. Russ Granik was the NBA Executive Vice President back then and he wrote a letter about Michael Jordan’s footwear breaking the league’s dress code, but referred to them only as “Nike Basketball shoes.” Of course, this al does not matter since the Air Jordan line has already cemented its place in history.

Featured at the top of this post is the very first actual photo of the Air Jordan 32, which was shared on Instagram by SWISH.SUPPLY ( As can be seen though, it provides a mere glimpse and preview of what the Jordan Brand’s latest Air Jordan model is going to look like. The uppers of the Air Jordan 32 appear to be heavily textured, apparently made up of a combination of knitted material and premium leather. Sneakerheads who are familiar enough with the design of the Air Jordan 2 will likely notice some resemblance, considering that it was the source of inspiration.

The Air Jordan 32 will be debuting in this Bred-themed “MJ Day” colorway and it based on recent reports, it will end up joining the Air Jordan releases 2017 scheduled for later this year. In fact, it is being reported that the Air Jordan 32 “MJ Day” will make its retail debut at a price of $185 on October 18th, 2017.
