This Air Jordan 31 RW Honors Russell Westbrook Recently Receiving The MVP Award

Winning an NBA MVP award is no ordinary accomplishment. Most of the players who have won the MVP award are already in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and those MVPs who have not made it there yet will definitely end up being a part of it in the near future. One such Hall of Famer MVP is none other than Michael Jordan, who got enshrined as part of the Class of 2009. Since the G.O.A.T.’s MVP-winning season, Russell Westbrook recently became the second Jordan Brand athlete to win the MVP award, so Jordan Brand dropped this Air Jordan 31 RW variation in his honor.

The 28-year-old Russell became the second member from the Oklahoma City Thunder roster to win the MVP award on June 27th, 2017. This was quite a historic season of Russell Westbrook, filled with plenty of triple doubles. In commemoration of his MVP award win, Jordan Brand gifted Russell a special package. Michael Jordan also personally wrote a letter to the recent MVP, congratulating him on first MVP award and reminding him that even he received his MVP award before he received his first NBA Championship ring. Michael Jordan was already MVP and then he won his first NBA championship at the age of 28.

The Air Jordan 31 RW featured here is actually a special, limited edition variation of the model that Jordan Brand specifically designed as a tribute to the new MVP award winner. Hence, the “RW” stands for Russell Westbrook. Some of the highlights of Russell’s MVP-winning season have been illustrated in graphic-form over the heels and sock liners of this sneaker, which has predominantly Black-colored uppers. It also sports copious Blue- and Red-colored accents throughout, while its soles appear to have been borrowed from the Air Jordan 31.

Apparently, the inspiration behind this Air Jordan 31 RW designed in honor of Russell Westbrook is the Air Jordan 3 PE that Jordan Brand whipped up for him last year. Russell rocked that Air Jordan 3 PE during the Final Road Game that Kobe Bryant participated in last year. Despite being a limited edition sneaker, it still ended up joining recent Jordan releases 2017, and should still be available at Jordan.com and select Jordan Brand stores for $185.
