The Air Jordan 12 “Chinese New Year” Releases Will Arrive At These Retailers

January 28th will kick off the Year of the Rooster and the festivities of the Chinese New Year will carry on until the Lunar New Year’s 15th day. In Cantonese Chinese, Happy New Year translates to “gong hey fat choy” and in Mandarin Chinese, Happy New Year translates to “gong xi fa cai.” The Chinese New Year festivities continue for a span of two weeks and take place not just in China, but even in Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan as well. Furthermore, immigrant Chinese residing in other parts of the world also celebrate the Chinese New Year in their respective countries.

Jordan Brand is also celebrating in their own unique way and are giving sneakerheads the opportunity to celebrate by copping the two Air Jordan 12 “Chinese New Year” releases. 2016 was the Year of the Monkey, while 2017 is the Year of the Rooster and fire is its elemental sign. The combination of the Rooster with fire comes every 60 years, and it is said that people who are born during such a year tend to be trustworthy, and tend to be more prompt and responsible at work. Moreover, the year of one’s birth sign is regarded as most lucky for that person in Chinese horoscopes.

These latest detailed photos of the two Air Jordan 12 “Chinese New Year” colorways come courtesy of SneakerPolitics.com. Predominantly, both versions are made up of the usual materials, but they also feature premium Bamboo and 3M reflective detailing, and their mudguards also sport cross-hatched textures. The men’s adult-sized iteration is dressed up in a Black and White color scheme with carbon fiber accents, while the GG/GS rendition is covered in Off-White and Varsity Red with contrasting Orewood Brown-colored accents.

While these two Air Jordan 12 “Chinese New Year” releases already hit the shelves at international retailers earlier this past weekend. However, stateside sneakerheads will be able to cop them on the Chinese New Year day itself, i.e. January 28th.
