Many of the sneakerheads reading this may recall the Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard,” the colorway that made its retail debut back on June 27th, 2015 at a price of $160. This brand new colorway was among one of the many Air Jordan releases that Jordan Brand dropped that year in commemoration of the brand’s 30th anniversary. The sneaker ended up being released via Nike’s online raffle system. The very next year, in October 2016, Jordan Brand dropped the Air Jordan 1 “Reverse Shattered Backboard.” It seems that the Air Jordan releases 2018 will also include the “Shattered Backboard” colorway, this time over the Air Jordan 1 Satin.
Nike had actually just introduced their online raffle system around the time the Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard” was set to debut. A myriad of different Nike stores in cities like Chicago, Las Angeles and Las Vegas ended up using the raffle system for the sneaker’s release. The nickname of the colorway was a reference to one particularly noteworthy highlight from Michael Jordan’s career, namely when he shattered a backboard after scoring a dunk during an exhibition game in Italy back in 1985. The sneaker, which was dressed up in a combination of Black, Orange and Off-White, eventually retailed at a price of $160.
Shoe Surgeon, the famous sneaker customizer, even whipped up a rather unique, custom variation of the Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard,” using faux python and nubuck for its uppers. The upcoming Air Jordan 1 Satin “Shattered Backboard” looks just like the original, with just a few exceptions. The most obvious one is the fact that its uppers feature lustrous satin material in addition to the traditional leather. Of course, it still sports the same color combination of Black, Orange and Off-White. The other exception is the fact that it will be joining one of the upcoming women’s only Air Jordan releases 2018.
It is also being reported that the Air Jordan 1 Satin “Shattered Backboard” will be a limited release, with just less than 1,000 pairs having been produced. Official release details have yet to be announced, but it will apparently end up retailing at a price of $175.
