On July 13th this year, Nike introduced and released a new hybrid lifestyle and running shoe model named the React Element 87. It featured semi-translucent TPE uppers with some of the inner components visible through it. Above all though, its midsoles were equipped with Nike’s innovative REACT foam cushioning technology, with rubber rivets drilled into it to make this shoe more stable. Ever since its retail debut at a price of $160, it has been regarded among the best new sneakers of 2018. The sneaker above probably looks like a React Element 87 variation, but it is actually a similar-looking Air Jordan 1 equipped with REACT cushioning.
What Is Nike’s REACT Foam Cushioning Technology?
The REACT foam cushioning technology was designed in the Nike Sports Research Lab back it 2017 and it debuted that year as a part of the Jordan Super.Fly 6 and REACT Hyperdunk 2017 Flyknit. Compared to IPS and Lunar foam, Nike’s REACT foam proved to be far more bouncy, lightweight, responsive and stable, providing considerably more energy return. Based on tests, Nike claims that REACT is “the most durable foam” being used in basketball. Nike designed the REACT cushioning to be ideal for athletes who like to be active and move. Although Jordan Brand has already adopted REACT cushioning, it has not been paired with an iconic model yet.
What Kind Of An Air Jordan 1 Is This?
The two photos accompanying this post were shared on Instagram by Frank Cooker (@frankcooker), who happens to be a Jordan Brand employee. Although it is being referred to as an Air Jordan 1, it can be regarded as more of a hybrid of the Air Jordan 1 and the React Element 87. Dressed up in a Black and Red “Bred” color scheme, its uppers are similarly semi-translucent as those of the React Element 87. An adhesive clasp has been added to its lacing system and it is equipped with REACT cushioning. The Air Jordan 1’s signature “Swoosh” and “Wings” logos are absent, while several loops have been added.
Will This Air Jordan 1 & React Element 87 Arrive At Retailers?
As mentioned, Nike’s REACT foam cushioning technology already crossed over to Jordan Brand when it was incorporated as a part of the Jordan Super.Fly 6. However, it is uncertain if this rather unique variation of the Air Jordan 1 will ever hit the shelves, but keep checking back to SneakersDog for more updates.
