When it comes to Air Jordan designs, sneakers tend to be divided into sharply contrasting groups. They either love or hate the Air Jordan sneakers, whether those designed by Tinker Hatfield or someone else. Coincidentally, two Air Jordan designs that are considered somewhat outrageous and have been met with particularly strong reactions happen to be equipped with straps. Perhaps for this very reason, Air Jordan models with straps are a rarity, with the Air Jordan 8 and 20 being the most prominent ones. However, turns out that Jordan Brand has upgraded the classic Air Jordan 1 too, adding not one but two straps to it in place of its laces.
With the NBA All-Star Weekend nearing, sneakerheads can expect to get plenty more previews of upcoming Air Jordan releases 2018 in the days that follow. Near the end of January, Jordan Brand was at the CBS Studios, hosting the Future of Flight event. Apart from brand new All-Star Game jerseys, Jordan Brand also unveiled quite a few highly-anticipated, upcoming sneakers, including the Air Jordan 1 “Double Strap” featured here. Other releases that were unveiled included the Air Jordan 3 “Tinker” and even a first-of-its-kind Spring 2018 women’s line. The event made it quite obvious that Jordan Brand is still quite dedicated to excellence as it has always been.
As mentioned, this brand new variation of the Air Jordan 1 was unveiled in Los Angeles at Jordan Brand’s Future Of Flight event. This variation gets its “Double Strap” nickname from the two oversized straps that are wrapped around the mid-foot, nearly covering it and replacing the laces that have been a signature element of the silhouette. This Air Jordan 1 also sports a platformed aesthetic because it midsoles are higher than they normally tend to be. Furthermore, the sneaker also looks sleeker because its Achilles area is apparently a bit pinched. Its tongues also feature the “Nike Air” branding.
Much like the Air Jordan 1 Retro High “Zip,” this variation is likely going to be one of the women’s Air Jordan releases 2018 of this year. However, so far there has been no confirmation or reports about whether this Air Jordan 1 “Double Strap” will actually be hitting the shelves this year.
