Spike Lee’s films have often served as source of inspiration for Air Jordan Retro colorways, but Jordan Brand has barely dropped any sneakers influenced by Do The Right Thing, the film he directed in 1989. Fortunately, Jordan Brand finally decided to pay Spike Lee’s iconic comedy-drama film the attention it deserves, considering that it featured several of Nike’s and Jordan Brand’s most coveted sneakers. Rumors about the Jordan releases 2016 of Do The Right Thing-influenced Air Jordan 2 “Radio Raheem” began circulating quite a while ago and now an actual photo of the sneaker have also popped up.
Although limited in number, at least a few Air Jordan Retro silhouettes like the Air Jordan Spizike, Air Jordan 3 and Air Jordan XX8 have been themed around Do The Right Thing and Spike Lee himself. Fans of the film probably know which character this Air Jordan 2 iteration draws inspiration from one particular character made his appearance loudly playing “Fight the Power” by Public Enemy on his boom box. Indeed, this upcoming colorway is inspired by and named after Radio Raheem.
As a nod to Radio Raheem, the leather upper of this Air Jordan 2 rendition is covered almost entirely in black, including the laces, while the rear end and vamp area of the sneaker are dressed up in blue. The tongue also sports traces of blue. The sneaker also happens to be equipped with multicolored lace eyelets, namely in blue, orange and pink. Finally, the white rubber sole unit adds a clean and crisp finishing touch. Although this iteration is an impressive concept, it would have been even more complete if it also paid reference to Radio Raheem’s “HATE” and “LOVE” brass knuckles.
Even though Jordanheads have finally gotten a look at the actual sneaker, official photos of this Do The Right Thing-influenced Air Jordan 2 colorway have yet to be unveiled. Moreover, even a date for the Jordan release 2016 of the Air Jordan 2 “Radio Raheem” has been announced, so stay 2016.
