Michael Jordan officially concluded his professional basketball career in 2005. It was also the year in which the Air Jordan 6 and the Air Jordan 11 were probably two of Jordan Brand’s most popular models. That very year, rumors also began spreading that Jordan Brand was planning to drop the two models together as a part of a package. This seemed unbelievable since neither of the two models had arrived at retailers in over half a decade back then. Yet, the Defining Moments Package was eventually introduced. Based on leaked photos, it seems that this year’s Air Jordan Defining Moments Package will include the Air Jordan 13 and 14.
Jordan Brand decided to release the Defining Moments Package as an essential and relevant homage to Michael Jordan. At that time though, sneakerheads could just not grasp the idea of two sneakers arriving in a single package. They were uncertain about things like whether they would be able to purchase just one, whether they would both be contained in a single or separate boxes, and so on. Of course, 2006’s Defining Moments Package was literally a single package containing two sneakers and so they ultimately had to make room to house it in their closets. The package retailed at a price of $295 on January 28th, 2006.
Photos that provide glimpses of the two sneakers from 2017’s Defining Moments Package were shared on Instagram by @znseakerheadz. The Air Jordan 14 is only partially visible, with seemingly all-Black uppers and Metallic Gold-colored accents, but far more detailed photos of the Air Jordan 13 have popped up ever since. In contrast to the Air Jordan 14, the Air Jordan 13 has plain White-colored uppers, with Metallic Gold-colored overlays and Varsity Red appearing over branding, namely the “Jumpman” logo on each tongue. The quote “They can’t win until we quit” has also been divided between the left and right shoe, printed on the inside of their tongues.
Apparently, this year’s Defining Moments Package is a tribute to Michael Jordan’s 1998 NBA Finals championship victory. That would explain the “1998” featured on the box in large, Gold-colored font. It is being rumored that this year’s Defining Moments Package will be joining June’s Jordan releases 2017.
