A few years ago, Jordan Brand had dropped the “Familiar Foes” Collection as a means of recalling some of Michael Jordan’s most noteworthy foes. The highlight of the collection was the “Human Highlight Reel” colorway of the Air Jordan 1 that drew its inspiration from the Dominique Wilkins who played for the Atlanta Hawks. Reggie Miller of the Indiana Pacers, one of MJ’s rivals during the Eastern Conference, also inspired one of the colorways from the collection. The Indiana Pacers were one of MJ’s and the Bulls’ most fearsome rivals. Apparently, one of Spring 2017’s colorways of the Jordan Son of Mars will also draw inspiration from the Pacers.
Currently, the Indiana Pacers are being referred to as NBA’s “little brother” by one of their shooting guards and small forwards, Paul George. Paul’s nickname for his team is a sign of his frustration after losing to the Chicago Bulls with a score of 90-85, especially because no foul calls were made in the game. Throughout the game, Paul got the opportunity to make a free throw just once, which annoyed both him and Nate McMillan, the current head coach of the Pacers. This season, Paul has been scoring an average of 21.4 points per game, while has a free throw attempts average of 4.5 per game.
Considering that the Indiana Pacers were such huge rivals of the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan himself, so it is not surprising that Jordan Brand has drawn inspiration from the team. This Jordan Son of Mars that has been dressed up in a Pacers-inspired color scheme has uppers sporting a Slate Blue and Varsity Yellow combination. Borrowed from the Air Jordan 3, its heels and toecaps feature Elephant Print overlays, while a glossy Spiz’ike-like print appears over its midfoot straps and its tongues resemble those of the Air Jordan 5.
Of course, this will not be the only colorway of this model that will be among Jordan Brand’s Jordan releases 2017. Along with this Pacers-inspired Jordan Son of Mars iteration, sneakerheads can look forward to plenty of others in Spring 2017 and beyond.
