It is not uncommon for the sneaker community to disagree on things; rather it happens more than often. However, one thing that Jordanheads will mostly agree on is that they had certainly been awaiting the return of the Air Jordan 12 “Flu Game.” Next year is going to mark the 2016 Jordans of three different returning Air Jordan 12 iterations and the “Flu Game” is one of them, while the other two are the “Cherry” and “French Blue” colorways. The Air Jordan 12 “Flu Game” is perhaps one of the most iconic versions of the model that is making its comeback 6 years after the last time it was retro’ed.
The reason that the “Flu Game” edition of the Air Jordan 12 is considered so iconic and is revered within the sneaker community is because Michael Jordan himself wore it. It was back in 1997 during the fifth game of the NBA Finals, the Chicago Bulls versus the Utah Jazz, when Michael Jordan sported the Air Jordan 12 “Flu Game” on the court. This colorway was dubbed “Flu Game” because MJ had actually been suffering from flu at the time, yet he performed outstandingly and managed to score 38 points for his team. Jordan Brand dropped retro version of the Air Jordan 12 “Flu Game” in 2003, while the sneaker was also re-released in 2009, although the 2009 edition did not match the OG construction due to its nubuck upper.
Fortunately, next year’s returning “Flu Game” version can be regarded as a remastered retro edition because it will be a precise replica of the original 1997 classic. This means that there will not be any silly “sick face emoji” present on it anywhere as seen on the pairs from 2009. As per schedule, the Jordan release 2016 of the Air Jordan 12 “Flu Game” is slated to take place somewhere in May next year. Even though an actual release date has not yet been confirmed by Jordan Brand, the sneaker will apparently retail for $190 once it does hit the shelves.
